If you have a child that is playing U5-U8 in our Santa Clara Youth Soccer League, we want to invite your son or daughter to participate in our FREE training sessons on Fridays from 5:30pm-7pm at Curtis Field. These training sessions are for players who think they may want to play competitive soccer when they are age U9 (or U8 in the Spring of 2014). This training will be provided by professional coaches who currently coach competitive teams in Santa Clara Sporting as well as other clubs. The training will be more intensive and instructive than a normal recreational soccer training session. The players will be expected to pay attention and concentrate on soccer and coaching instructions. Participants will be competing against other top players, so they will improve their skills by attacking and defending other advance skilled soccer players. This system creates friendly competition among those at the session, and leads to player development.
The two Santa Clara Sporting 03 Boys Team have players that started in our Pre-Comp program last year. Here is the Santa Clara Sporting 03 Green Team that won the 2013 Sporting Invitational Championship.
I have heard from a number of parents whose kids aren’t playing soccer anymore that the reason they stopped playing was from boredom. The kids would enter the game and score a few goals, then the coach would hold them back and tell them they couldn’t score anymore. The kids got bored with the game because they were so much better than their competition. This is exactly why these players need to be challenged by other advance skilled soccer players. I have also heard from parents whose Santa Clara children are playing competitive soccer in other leagues, that they didn’t know we had competitive teams in SCYSL and Santa Clara Sporting, so they went elsewhere.
If you aren’t sure if you want your child to play competitive soccer in the future, this is a great way to get a free look at coaches during a training session, and evaluate how your child compares in soccer skills to other kids, and see how your child reacts to this type of competition, etc. If is is not the experience your child enjoys, then you figure-out if competitive soccer is a good fit or not.
The SCYSL Pre-Comp Soccer Program is designed for players looking for advanced training and an opportunity to experience a competitive environment. Players will go through structured and dynamic drills that will test a players technical skills with the ball. They will focus on training the key skills of dribbling, passing, shooting, control, and skills as an individual and then in a small team environment. This is a great opportunity for players looking to get an experience or prepare to play on a competitive team next season or the one after.
DATES: 9/6, 9/20, 10/4, 10/18, 11/1
Location: Curtis Field
The players will be separated by age, gender, size and skill level to ensure a good training session for all.
Players that enjoy this can also tryout for U7 competitive teams this winter. Tryout dates will be communicated at the end of the Pre Comp Program
Yours in soccer,
